I distinctly remember the day I figured out that I look at the world differently than many people do. I ran into class breathless, and the teacher engaged me in casual conversation. “You look happy this morning!”
I enthusiastically shared with her that I’d watched such a beautiful sunrise on the way in that morning. The clouds and the bright orange sun and rays blended over a huge hilltop and reminded me of a TV show I’d seen on National Geographic about an erupting volcano. It had been such a lovely way to begin the day.
At least, until I saw the teacher’s face go blank, and her attention rapidly wander away from me. I found my desk and stuck my nose in my books, wondering what it was that I’d said!
It was years later, studying ed psych and learning theory, that I found there were ‘labels’ and terms to describe me! So, I look at the world through rose-colored glasses. I like to look out the windows and enjoy the ride. Life is for living, and being optimistic is not a character flaw. It just might be the key to a happier life.
What did you notice on your life journey today?
I noticed kids getting engrossed in listening to other students tell how they solve problems at their schools by being members of their student tech team. I watched kids struggle with some new terminology and say, "Wow; I didn't know that." Later, I witnessed a teacher turn a student's question aside; in a hurry to 'cover' the material rather than uncover learning. Too bad she wasn't wearing her 'rose-colored glasses' as she missed the best part of her day when she did that.
Sometimes, it is hard to stay optimistic.
To quote E. B. White, "I wake up every morning determined both to change the world and have one heck of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning the day a little difficult."
