§ In each group, first share what you have been doing with writing that would prepare students for this performance assessment
§ Each share the student writing samples they have brought with them, talk about how that writing might ‘fit’ this performance assessment and what could be changed if needed so this type of writing would ‘fit’
§ Divide and conquer the resources – look at these things in particular:
From the KS CCR Standards and Common Core:
1. Appendix C – examples of student writing exemplars for your grade levels and/or content areas
2. Appendix B – examples of text for your grade levels
3. KS CCR Standards for your classes
From the KSDE resources for the Kansas Multi-Media Performance Task:
1. Examine the sample guides by grade level and compare them to writing assignments your students have done
2. Examine the information in the Plymouth Writing Project for your grade level
3. PK-2 – Look at Grade 3 information on sites that do not have PK-2- you are setting the stage for the rest of us!
Finally, examine the appropriate annotated student writing on Achieve the Core (this has samples of K and up writing)
§ After you have examined and discussed the resources, use the lesson idea you brought with you and construct your lesson plan and writing prompt for On-Demand Writing. Type up your plan, save it and e-mail it to your principal.
§ Be prepared to share your plan and what you discussed in your grade level groups with the entire group during the last 20 minutes of our time together today.
